MLB | Miami Marlins (71-75) at Philadelphia Phillies (68-79)

The Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Marlins face off o Saturday in Philadelphia for game two of their series.

The Philadelphia Phillies needed extra innings to get it done but they got the win on Friday against Miami. Cody Asche hit the game winning home run and Chase Utley and Dominic Brown each had two hits as the Phillies scored three runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Cole Hamels allowed nine hits and a run while striking out six over 7.0 innings to get a no decision as Jake Diekman got the win. For Saturday’s game the Phillies start Kyle Kendrick who lost last time out to end a personal three game winning streak. For the season Kendrick has allowed 195 hits and 97 earned runs while striking out 111 over 180.2 innings for a 8-12 record and a 4.83 ERA.

The Miami Marlins were unable to score more than one run on Friday and that wasn’t enough to get the win over the Phillies. Jeff Baker, Ed Lucas, and Adeiny Hechavarria each had two hits as the Marlins scored one run on nine hits. Starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez allowed seven hits and a run while striking out four over 7.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Dan Jennings took the loss. For Saturday’s game the marlins start Brad hand who had a win in his last start. For the season Hand has allowed 94 hits and 46 earned runs while striking out 57 over 93 innings for a 3-6 record and a 4.45 ERA.

Philadelphia is 5-0 in game two of a series, 2-4 in their last six games, and 5-2 in Kendrick’s last seven starts. Miami is 4-10 as a road underdog, 1-5 against a team with a losing record, and 3-8 in Hand’s last 11 road starts. Miami is 10-29 in their last 39 games in Philadelphia.

The marlins fought the good fight this season but they look about done right now and my play is the Phillies.
