MLB | Miami Marlins (57-88) at Philadelphia Phillies (74-71)
Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies will be matching up in MLB activity on Friday from Citizens Bank Park.

Miami comes into this one after a set against the Mets. The Marlins split the first two games of that series, then in the makeup doubleheader Thursday Miami lost both games 4-3 and 5-2.

For the Friday game, the Marlins will be going with LHP Wie-Yin Chen. In his 118.1 innings and 6-10 record this year, Chen has a 4.72 ERA with 98 Ks.

Leading the way for the Marlins offense is Starlin Castro, who came into Thursday on 156 hits, 72 runs, 11 homers and 51 RBI. In the doubleheader finale, Castro came up empty as a starter in the first game and in a pinch-hit role in the second.

Over on the Phillies’ side, they’re sending out Zach Eflin on Friday. Across 114.0 innings and a 9-7 record this year, Eflin has a 4.42 ERA with 107 Ks.

The Phillies’ lead bat is Cesar Hernandez, with 139 hits, 83 runs, 11 homers and 49 RBI. Odubel Herrera isn’t far behind on 132 hits, 61 runs, 21 homers and 65 RBI.

The Marlins are 3-12 in their last 15 in game one of a series and 1-6 in their last seven Friday games. The over is 3-1-1 in Miami’s last five Friday games and 3-1-1 in their last five in game one of a series.

Meanwhile, the Phillies are 7-3 in their last 10 Friday games and 2-9 in the last 11 in game one of a series. Philly is 0-5 in their last five versus the NL East and 0-5 in their last five overall.

It’s been a tale of two halves for Eflin so far this year. In his first 11 starts of 2018, he posted a 7-2 record with a 2.97 ERA. Since then, he’s just 2-5 with a 6.26 ERA over 10 starts. With those numbers in mind, it’s hard to trust Eflin for much of anything, even against a bad Miami team. Still, the Marlins are likely wiped out after trying to finish that Mets series, so I’m going to go Phillies here. You wouldn’t be nuts for value-picking Miami, though.

Pick:
Philadelphia Phillies -186
