The Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies meet in game one of a three game NL East division set in MLB action from Citizens Bank Park on Friday.

The Miami Marlins will look to finish the year on a high note after salvaging a series split with the Mets, finishing the series with a 4-2 win on Thursday. Tyler Heineman had a home run and two RBIs while Curtis Granderson and Austin Dean each had a solo home run to round out Miami’s scoring as a team in the win with Dean going 2 for 4 with a double as well. Starlin Castro and Harold Ramirez each had a double to finish off the Marlins’ offense as all six of Miami’s hits went for extra bases in the win. Jordan Yamamoto threw six shutout innings, giving up just one hit while walking three and striking out ten, not factoring in the decision. Jeff Brigham got the win to improve to 3-2 while Jose Urena closed things out for his 3rd save of the year. Pablo Lopez will start game one and is 5-8 with a 4.96 ERA and 92 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lopez is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 9 strikeouts against Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Phillies will also look to play for some positive vibes heading into next season after being swept by the Nationals in a five game series, dropping Thursday’s finale by a final count of 6-3. Andrew Knapp went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs while Cesar Hernandez also went 2 for 4 with a solo home run to finish off Philadelphia’s offense as a team in the loss. Rhys Hoskins, Jean Segura and Maikel Franco each had a base hit to finish off the Phillies’ offense. Jason Vargas took the loss, falling to 7-9 on the year after allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits while walking five and striking out three over 4.1 innings of work. Vince Velasquez will start game one and is 7-8 with a 4.76 ERA and 127 strikeouts this season. In his career, Velasquez is 4-3 with a 4.06 ERA and 68 strikeouts against Miami.

Miami is 1-5 in Lopez’s last 6 road starts and 30-78 in their last 108 road games while the over is 8-1 in their last 9 games overall. Philadelphia is 0-5 in their last 5 games overall and 1-5 in their last 6 series opening matchups while the under is 5-2-1 in their last 8 home games. Miami is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.

The Phillies being favored at home makes sense, as Lopez has an ERA over seven on the road this season. However, this is still a game between two teams with nothing but pride to play for, and it’s hard for me to get behind a Phillies team that just lost five games in a row to the same team. Velasquez isn’t a world beater and the Marlins actually showed some fight in their series against New York. I’ll take a shot with Miami and the plus money here.
