The Milwaukee Brewers and the Philadelphia Phillies meet in game three of their four game set in MLB action from Citizens’ Bank Park on Wednesday night.
The Milwaukee Brewers will look to take a series lead after evening the set up at one win apiece following a 6-1 win in game two on Tuesday. Yasmani Grandal went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs while Ryan Braun added a homer of his own with two RBIs and Ben Gamel delivered a pinch-hit RBI to round out Milwaukee’s scoring as a team in the win. Lorenzo Cain had a double while Keston Hiura and Orlando Arcia each had two hits. Brandon Woodruff, Mike Moustakas and Jesus Aguilar each had base hits as well in the winning effort for the Brew Crew. Brandon Woodruff got the win to improve to 6-1 on the year after tossing six shutout innings, allowing just one hit while walking and whiffing five apiece. Gio Gonzalez will start game three and is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA and 12 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gonzalez is 11-7 with a 2.95 ERA and 149 strikeouts against Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia Phillies will look to rebound after dropping game two on Tuesday. Jean Segura went 2 for 4 with Philly’s lone RBI in the loss while Maikel Franco had a double and Nick Williams and Cesar Hernandez each had a base knock as the Phillies cranked out just five hits as a team in the losing effort. Jerad Eickhoff took the loss on the mound, falling to 2-2 on the year after allowing five runs on eight hits over four innings of work. Jake Arrieta will start game three and is 4-3 with a 3.78 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season. In his career, Arrieta is 8-6 with a 3.22 ERA and 86 strikeouts against Milwaukee.
Milwaukee is 8-2 in Gonzalez’s last 10 starts and 8-3 in their last 11 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record. Philadelphia is 26-10 in their last 36 home games against a left-handed starter and 1-4 in Arrieta’s last 5 starts against a team with a winning record while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. The over is 20-7-1 in the last 28 meetings between these two teams in Philadelphia.
The Phillies and the low line at home is worth a look considering Philadelphia’s solid lineup from top to bottom. However, Arrieta had issues with the Brewers last season, going 0-2 with an 8.31 ERA against Milwaukee last season. Gonzalez has been solid for the Brewers and Milwaukee has had a lot of success when he pitches, so I’ll take a shot with the slight plus money and the Brewers on Wednesday.
