The San Francisco Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies will meet up on the MLB diamond to kick off their series Tuesday.
The Giants are coming out of a weekend set against the Padres. San Francisco fell 5-1 on Saturday, but eked out wins 2-1 Friday and 7-6 Sunday to take a series victory.
San Francisco will send out Tyler Beede for the start on Tuesday. Over his 65.0 innings and 3-4 record this year, Beede has a 4.85 ERA with 62 Ks and 30 BBs.
Over on the Phillies’ side, they played the Braves over the weekend. Philly dropped Friday’s matchup 9-2 and Saturday’s 15-7, but prevented the sweep with a 9-4 win on Sunday.
The Phillies are going with Drew Smyly as the starter in the Tuesday game. In his 57.1 innings and 1-5 record this year, Smyly has a 7.69 ERA with 60 Ks and 36 BBs.
The Giants are 5-0 in their last five in game one of a series and 4-0 in their last four Tuesday games. San Francisco is 13-3 in their last 16 road games and 4-0 in Beede’s last four road starts.
Meanwhile, the Phillies are 7-0 in their last seven Tuesday games and 5-2 in their last seven versus a right-handed starter. Philly is 3-7 in their last 10 following a win and 5-11 in their last 16 home games versus a team with a winning record.
Beede had a string of three quality starts going this month, with four earned over 21.2 innings in those. He stumbled a bit his last time out however, with 5.2 innings and four earned on 10 hits.
As for Smyly, his first start with the Phillies went well (one earned in 6.0 innings), but he’s been pretty choppy since late May.
I like Beede to get things back together here and help the Giants to a win.
