The Line: Pittsburgh Pirates -121 / Chicago Cubs +111 --- Over/Under: 8
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Cubs face off on Thursday afternoon at PNC Park for game four of their MLB series of NL Central teams.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have two of their first three games of this series against the Cubs including a win on Wednesday. Gregory Polanco had two hits including a home run and Neil Walker and Starling Marte were among those getting hits as the Pirates scored four runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Vance Worley allowed six hits and a run while striking out five over 5.2 innings to get the win and go to 2-1 for the season and Tony Watson earned the save. For Thursday’s game the Pirates start Jeff Locke who has allowed 11 hits and three runs while striking out eight ver 14 innings for a 2-0 record and 1.93 ERA.
The Cubs continue to look improved and like a team that isn’t going to quit but even so they fell short of the win on Wednesday. Anthony Rizzo had two hits and Dexter Fowler and Kris Bryant were among those getting hits as the Cubs scored three runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Jason Hammel allowed six hits and four runs, three earned, while striking out five over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-1 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Cubs start Kyle Hendricks who has allowed 11 hits and seven earned runs while striking out 11 over 10.1 innings for a 0-0 record and a 6.10 ERA.
Pittsburgh is 6-2 in game four of a series, 36-15 against a right-handed starter, and 9-1 in Locke’s last 10 starts. Chicago is 5-0 following a loss, 7-3 as an underdog, and 11-1 in Hendricks’ last 12 starts. Chicago is 6-15 in their last 21 games in Pittsburgh.
The total is set at eight and I like the under in this one and that is my free pick. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as the App.
