The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Cubs face off on Friday at PNC Park in a MLB matchup of NL Central teams.

The Pittsburgh Pirates occupy the final Wildcard spot in the National League but they still have their sights set on the leading St. Louis Cardinals. The Pirates are 44-28 at home, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and hey have won their last two games. As a team the Pirates are hitting .259 with Josh Harrison hitting .318, Andrew McCutchen hitting .311, and Starling Marte hitting .286. As a team the Pirates pitching staff has an ERA of 3.62 with the starters at 3.79 and the bullpen at 3.30. For game one against the Cubbies the Pirates start Gerrit Cole who beat the Cubs in his last start. For the season Cole has allowed 108 hits and 48 hits while striking out 105 over 111 innings for a 8-5 record and a 3.89 ERA.

The Chicago Cubs are improving and rebuilding but like any rebuilding process here have been plenty of bumps in the road. The Cubs are 3-7 in their last 10 games, 29-46 on the road, and they have lost six games in a row. As a team the Cubs are hitting .240 with Jorge Soler hitting .356, Starlin Castro hitting .292, and Chris Coghlan hitting .273. As a team the Cubs pitching staff has an ERA of 3.91 with the starters at 4.05 and the bullpen at 3.65. For game one against the Pirates the Cubs start Ysuyoshi Wada who left his last start with a calf strain. For the season Wada has allowed 45 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 46 over 55 innings for a 4-2 record and a 2.95 ERA.

Pittsburgh is 4-0 against a left-handed starter, 19-8 as a home favorite, and 8-2 in Cole’s last 10 starts. Chicago is 7-2 following an off day, -6 as an underdog, and 2-5 in their last seven road games against a right-handed starter. Chicago is 9-23 in their last 32 games with Pittsburgh.

The Pirates are just the better team making them the better play here.

Pick:
Pittsburgh Pirates -192

On July 1, 2008 I typed into Google "How Do I start A Blog" and I started my first website called "Miami Mitch's Place" where i shared my college football Picks and predictions as well as opinion. By the Fall I had heard from many that the title made it sound like the site was about Miami so I changed it to "College Football Place" (cfbplace.com), After the 2008 college football season I change focus and launched CBBplace.com, it wasn't long after that when I realized I just wanted one place to add all sports, and that's when Sports Chat Place was born.

This site is a big Thank You to all of our readers, visitors, and community where we have been given a platform to talk to the masses about sports and hopefully help put you on some winners. If you need to reach me just shoot an email to [email protected]
