The Line: Pittsburgh Pirates -175 / Chicago White Sox +165 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Over at PNC Park on Wednesday, the Chicago White Sox and the Pittsburgh Pirates will be meeting up on the MLB diamond.
In the Tuesday edition of this set, Pittsburgh scored six times in the first two innings and rode the wave to a 7-0 win.
For Wednesday’s game, the Sox will be bringing out LHP Hector Santiago. In his 27.1 innings and 5.60 ERA this year, Santiago has a 5.60 ERA with 16 BBs and 25 Ks.
Coming into this set, Jose Abreu and Yolmer Sanchez led the Sox with 40 hits apiece and eight homers between them. On Tuesday, Abreu and Sanchez combined for three hits.
Over on the Pirates’ side, their Wednesday starter will be RHP Jameson Taillon. In 39.2 innings and a 2-3 record this year, Taillon has a 4.08 ERA with 35 Ks.
Pittsburgh’s top hitter this year is Starling Marte, who had 48 hits, 29 runs, six homers and 19 RBI coming into this set. On Tuesday, Marte had one hit snd a run.
The White Sox are 20-41 in their last 61 Wednesday games and 15-38 in their last 53 during game two of a series. Chicago is also 17-38 in their last 53 road games and 8-20 in Santiago’s last 28 starts.
Meanwhile, the over is 7-0 in the Pirates’ last seven Wednesday games and 4-1-1 in their last six in game two of a series. Pittsburgh is 8-1 in their last nine home games and 40-19 in their last 59 versus the AL Central.
In a couple of starts earlier this month, Santiago put up 10 earned over 8.0 innings on 11 hits. Since then, however, he’s been better with one earned on five hits through 3.1 innings. As for Taillon, he left his last start due to a finger laceration but seems to be okay. I’m sticking with the Pirates here.
