|Date & Time||Saturday June 16, 2018, 4:05 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Pittsburgh Pirates -117 / Cincinnati Reds +107 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Coming up from PNC Park on Saturday, the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates will be meeting up on the MLB diamond once again.
In the Friday opener, the Pirates came from behind with two runs in the sixth inning to eke out a 3-2 victory.
For the Saturday game, the Reds will be bringing out RHP Luis Castillo. In his 73.0 innings and 4-7 record this year, Castillo has a 5.79 ERA with 74 Ks and 29 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Reds this year is Scooter Gennett, coming into this set with 85 hits, 35 runs, 12 homers and 47 RBI. On Friday, Gennett managed an RBI.
Over on the Pirates’ side, they’re going with Ivan Nova on Saturday. Across 67.1 innings and a 3-5 record this year, Nova has a 4.68 ERA with 55 Ks and 12 BBs.
Pittsburgh’s leading hitter on the season is Corey Dickerson with 74 hits, 31 runs and 32 RBI entering this series. In the opener, Dickerson came up empty 0-for-3.
The Reds are 19-39 in their last 58 in game two of a series and 8-23 in their last 31 Saturday games. Cincinnati is also 2-5 in Castillo’s last seven starts in game two of a series and 1-5 in his last six Saturday starts.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 0-4 in their last four Saturday games and 1-4 in Nova’s last five home starts. Pittsburgh is also 1-4 in Nova’s last five starts versus a team with a losing record and 0-5 in his last five starts in game two of a series.
Castillo has been pretty shaky statistically over his last three starts (all losses), with a total of 13 earned runs in 15.2 innings. As for Nova, he’s had some bad outings as well but in two of his last three starts he’s given up a total of just three earned. There’s not a lot to like here, but I’m going to go with Nova and the Pirates on slim odds. The over looks pretty good, too.
