Cincinnati Reds (25-45) at Pittsburgh Pirates (35-35)
|Date & Time||Sunday June 17, 2018, 1:35 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Pittsburgh Pirates -120 / Cincinnati Reds +110 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Out at PNC Park on Sunday, the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates will be finishing up their MLB series.
In game one of this set, the Pirates eked out a 3-2 win. On Saturday, Pittsburgh won again 6-2.
For Sunday’s matchup, the Reds are going with RHP Anthony DeSclafani in the starting role. Over 10.0 innings and a 1-1 mark this year, DeSclafani has a 5.40 ERA with 11 Ks and three walks.
Scooter Gennett leads the Reds in hitting this year, entering the weekend with 85 hits, 35 runs, 12 homers and 48 RBI. On Saturday, Gennett had one hit.
Over on the Pirates’ side, they’re rolling with Joe Musgrove on Sunday. In his 25.0 innings and 2-1 mark this season, Musgrove has a 2.16 ERA with 23 Ks and five walks.
Tops in hitting for the Pirates this year is Corey Dickerson, coming into the weekend with 74 hits, 31 runs and 32 RBI. In game two, Dickerson had a pair of knocks.
The Reds are 7-3 in their last 10 in game three of a series and 29-60 in the last 89 Sunday games. Cincinnati is also 2-7 in DeSclafani’s last nine Sunday starts and 1-6 in his last seven road starts versus a team with a losing record.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 1-4 in their last five Sunday games and the under is 14-5-1 in their last 20 Sunday games. Pittsburgh is 4-9 in their last 14 versus the NL Central **** and 4-9 in their last 14 home games.
We’ve only had a couple of looks at DeSclafani since late 2016, and he’s given up 16 hits with six earned in two starts. As for Musgrove, he’s made four starts this year and three of them have been of the quality variety. There’s not a ton of intrigue here, but I like the Pirates to take this one.
