Pittsburgh Pirates -127 / Colorado Rockies +117
The Colorado Rockies and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet in the finale of their three game set from PNC Park in MLB action on Thursday afternoon.
The Colorado Rockies will look to complete the sweep on Thursday after taking the first two games of the series including a 9-3 victory in game two on Wednesday. Daniel Murphy and Tony Wolters each went 2 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs while Charlie Blackmon, Raimel Tapia and Brendan Rodgers each had an RBI with Rodgers going 3 for 5 with a double. Ian Desmond and David Dahl each added a double as well while Nolan Arenado went 2 for 4 and Jon Gray and Trevor Story each had base hits as well in the victory. Gray got the win to improve to 4-4 on the year after allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out seven over seven innings of work. Antonio Senzatela will start the finale and is 3-3 with a 4.89 ERA and 25 strikeouts this season. This will be Senzatela’s first career start against Pittsburgh.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to salvage a win and avoid the sweep after dropping game two on Wednesday. Josh Bell went 2 for 4 with a solo home run while Kevin Newman had an RBI and a double and Bryan Reynolds added an RBI of his own as well in the win. Elias Diaz went 2 for 4 at the dish while Adam Frazier, Gregory Polanco and Colin Moran each contributed base hits as well in the defeat. Montana DuRapau gave up three runs on three hits, failing to make it out of the first inning, taking the loss to fall to 0-1 on the year. Jordan Lyles will start the finale and is 4-1 with a 1.97 ERA and 47 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lyles is 1-3 with a 4.86 ERA and 31 strikeouts against Colorado.
Colorado is 5-2 in Senzatela’s last 7 road starts and 4-1 in their last 5 Thursday games while the over is 10-4 in their last 14 games against a team with a winning record. Pittsburgh is 4-0 in Lyles’ last 4 starts and 3-8 in their last 11 home games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 home games against a team with a losing road record. Colorado is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh being favored with a low line at home is tempting with Lyles on the mound, who’s given up one run in each of his last three starts and the Pirates have lost just once with Lyles on the mound this season. However, while Senzatela has been up and down, the Rockies have been the better team by far in the first two games of the series and have broken the bats out in a major way. I think the plus money holds some solid value on Thursday afternoon, so I’ll take the Rockies for the sweep.
