Los Angeles Dodgers: -1.5 (-110) / Pittsburgh Pirates: 1.5 (-110)
The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet in game two of their three game set in MLB action from PNC Park on Saturday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to keep the ball rolling after picking up a 10-2 win over the Pirates in game one on Friday. David Freese had a home run while going 2 for 4 with four RBIs, while Austin Barnes and Cody Bellinger each had two RBIs with Bellinger hitting a homer while Barnes went 2 for 5 with a pair of doubles. Max Muncy and Joc Pederson each had an RBI to round out L.A.’s scoring as a team in the win, with Pederson going 2 for 2 with a triple while Muncy doubled. Chris Taylor went 2 for 3 with a double while Justin Turner, Matt Beaty and Corey Seager each had base hits as well in the victory. Walker Buehler got the win to improve to 5-1 on the year after allowing one run on five hits while striking out six over six innings of work. Hyun-Jin Ryu will start game two and is 6-1 with a 1.52 ERA and 59 strikeouts this season. In his career, Ryu is 5-0 with a 2.51 ERA and 27 strikeouts against Pittsburgh.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to bounce back and even up the series after dropping the opener on Friday. Adam Frazier and Elias Diaz accounted for the Pittsburgh RBIs in the loss, with Frazier going 2 for 4 with a double. Starling Marte, Josh Bell, Colin Moran and Kevin Newman each had a double while Bryan Reynolds added a base knock of his own to round out Pittsburgh’s offense as a team in the defeat. Michael Feliz took the loss, recording just a single out while giving up five runs on four hits to fall to 2-1 on the year. Joe Musgrove will start game two and is 3-4 with a 3.67 ERA and 44 strikeouts this season. In his career, Musgrove is 0-2 with a 3.09 ERA and 10 strikeouts against the Dodgers.
Los Angeles is 4-1 in Ryu’s last 5 starts and 6-2 in their last 8 games overall while the under is 8-2 in Ryu’s last 10 road starts. Pittsburgh is 2-5 in Musgrove’s last 7 starts against a team with a winning record and 2-6 in their last 8 games against a left-handed starter while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 home games. Los Angeles is 5-0 in Ryu’s last 5 starts against Pittsburgh, 16-5 in the last 21 meetings between these two teams and 6-2 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams in Pittsburgh.
I would like to make a case for Pittsburgh and the sizeable plus money at home, but the fact of the matter is that there’s a reason that the Dodgers are heavy favorites here, even on the road. Ryu has been spectacular so far this season, issuing just four walks while not allowing a run in each of his last three starts, spanning 24 innings of work. There’s also the fact that Ryu has owned the Pirates so far in his career, and since the Dodgers are the better team from top to bottom, I expect to see more of what we saw in game one, so I’ll side with the Dodgers and to negate the heavy juice, give me L.A. on the RL.
