The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet in game one of a three game set from PNC Park in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to get back to .500 for the first time since April 24th after winning 12 of their last 16 games, including a 10-7 victory against Colorado on Sunday to complete the series sweep. Max Muncy led the Dodgers with four RBIs, going 2 for 5 with a pair of home runs, while Yasmani Grandal went 1 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs of his own. Logan Forsythe went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI while Justin Turner chipped in an RBI as well in the win. Yasiel Puig and Chris Taylor both went 2 for 4, with Puig adding a double, while Austin Barnes added a two bagger of his own and Matt Kemp chipped in a base hit as well to cap off L.A.’s offense in the victory. Alex Wood gave up six runs on five hits in just two innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Tony Cingrani got the win to improve to 1-2 this season, while Kenley Jansen notched his 14th save of the campaign. Ross Stripling will start game one and is 3-1 with a 1.68 ERA and 59 strikeouts this season. In his career, Stripling is 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA and 9 strikeouts against Pittsburgh.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to bounce back after having to settle for a series sweep against St. Louis, losing the finale by a final score of 5-0 on Sunday. Austin Meadows and Colin Moran were the only two Pirates with base hits in the shutout, as Pittsburgh ended up being no hit until the top of the 9th inning from Cardinals’ starter Michael Wacha. Nick Kingham took the loss, falling to 2-2 this season after giving up four runs, three earned, on four hits while striking out five over five innings of work. Joe Musgrove will start game one and is 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA and 12 strikeouts this season. This will be Musgrove’s first career start against the Dodgers.
Los Angeles is 7-0 in their last 7 road games and 12-4 in their last 16 games overall while the under is 11-2-1 in their last 14 games against the NL Central. Pittsburgh is 1-4 in their last 5 home games and 2-7 in their last 9 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss. Los Angeles is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams and 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Pittsburgh.
Plus money at home with Pittsburgh is tempting considering how well Musgrove has pitched to start the year. However, that’s about all that’s gone right for the Pirates as of late, and Musgrove may be one of their best chances at a win in this series. Los Angeles has been playing the better baseball between these two teams, and Stripling has been just as good as Musgrove, so given how the Dodgers have played on the road, I think laying the juice with Los Angeles is the pick on Tuesday.
