New York Mets (43-58) at Pittsburgh Pirates (54-51)
|Date & Time||Saturday July 28, 2018, 7:05 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Pittsburgh Pirates +130 / New York Mets -140 --- Over/Under: 7.5
The New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates meet Saturday in MLB action at PNC Park.
The New York Mets look for a spark of consistency after splitting their last six games. The Mets have scored 22 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in six of their last seven games. The New York Mets have won four of their last six games when scoring more than two runs. Asdrubal Cabrera leads the Mets with 104 hits and 58 RBI while Amed Rosario and Brandon Nimmo have combined for 151 hits and 58 RBI. Jacob deGrom gets the ball, and he is 5-5 with a 1.71 ERA and 159 strikeouts this season. deGrom is 1-2 with a 2.14 ERA and 36 strikeouts in his career against the Pirates.
The Pittsburgh Pirates look to stay hot after winning six of their last eight games. The Pirates have scored 11 runs in their last three games and five or more runs in seven of their last eight games. The Pittsburgh Pirates have won six of their last seven games when scoring at least one run. Corey Dickerson leads the Pirates with 110 hits and 44 RBI while Starling Marte and Josh Bell have combined for 195 hits and 103 RBI. Trevor Williams gets the ball, and he is 8-7 with a 4.11 ERA and 72 strikeouts this season. This will be Williams’ second career game against the Mets.
The Mets are 1-4 in their last 5 Saturday games, 1-4 in deGroms last 5 road starts and 3-8 in deGroms last 11 starts. The Pirates are 6-1 in their last 7 home games, 4-1 in their last 5 during game 3 of a series and 1-5 in Williams' last 6 starts with 4 days of rest. The Mets are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Pittsburgh, 1-4 in deGroms last 5 starts vs. Pirates and the over is 9-2-1 in the last 12 meetings.
deGrom is one of the top pitchers in baseball and deserves to be the favorite, I guess. deGrom has allowed just four runs in his last 24 innings and is allowing a .200 batting average on the season. Current Pirates hitters are hitting just .190 against deGrom in 63 at bats. While all that is well and fine, the Pirates remain one of the hottest teams in baseball and getting them at plus money at home feels like a steal. The New York Mets have nothing going for them and are one of those clubs counting the days until the offseason. I'll take the hot team playing for a wild card berth and the plus money.
