Pittsburgh Pirates +120 / New York Mets -130 O/U: 8.5
The New York Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates will match up on the MLB circuit to close out their series Sunday.
The Pirates powered out an 8-4 victory in the Friday opener of this set. On Saturday, the Mets got one 7-5.
The Mets will go with Noah Syndergaard in the start on Sunday. Over 134.0 innings and a 7-5 record this season, Syndergaard has a 4.10 ERA with 137 Ks and 37 BBs.
New York put up 12 hits in the Saturday game and scored six runs in the final three innings. Wilson Ramos was the top hitter there with four knocks, a two-run homer and six RBI.
Over on the Pirates’ side, they’re sending out Joe Musgrove in the start Sunday. Across 121.1 innings and an 8-9 record this year, Musgrove has a 4.23 ERA with 104 Ks and 29 BBs.
The Pirates posted 10 hits in the Saturday loss, but really only did damage in three different innings. Reynolds and Marte did most of the work on seven hits, three RBI and four runs combined.
The Mets are 5-0 in their last five in game three of a series and 6-2 in Syndergaard’s last eight starts. New York is 6-2 in Syndergaard’s last eight Sunday starts and 1-4 in his last five with four days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 1-4 in their last five Sunday games and 0-6 in the last six in game three of a series. Pitt is 5-1 in Musgrove’s last six home starts and 6-2 in his last eight starts.
Syndergaard is riding four consecutive quality starts, with six combined earned over 28.1 innings during that stretch. Still, he’s just 1-1 in that time and not getting a whole lot of support.
As for Musgrove, he coughed up five earned in 5.0 innings versus the Cards but came back with a quality start in Cincinnati his last time up.
I like Syndergaard here, and assuming the Mets bats can help out a bit (which is far from a guarantee), I’m going to tentatively side with New York.
