Over at PNC Park on Friday, the San Diego Padres and the Pittsburgh Pirates will be continuing their weekend MLB series.

In the Thursday opener, the Pirates eked out a tight win 5-4.

For Friday’s game, the Padres will be bringing out RHP Tyson Ross. In his 47.2 innings and 2-3 record this year, Ross has a 3.40 ERA with 53 Ks and 18 BBs.

Coming into this set, Jose Pirela led the way for the Padres on 45 hits, 25 runs and 14 RBI. On Thursday, Pirela had one hit.

Over on the Pirates’ side, they’re going with Ivan Nova on Friday. In his 50.1 innings and 2-3 mark this season, Nova has a 5.01 ERA with 39 Ks and eight walks.

Tops in hitting for the Pirates entering this series was Starling Marte, who had 49 hits, 30 runs and 19 RBI. In the opener, Josh Bell had two hits, an RBI and a run.

The Padres are 4-10 in their last 14 Friday games and 5-0 in Ross’ last five Friday starts. San Diego is also 7-3 in Ross’ last 10 road starts and 4-1 in his last five starts during game two of a series.

Meanwhile, the Pirates are 5-2 in their last seven in game two of a series and 5-2 in their last seven Friday games. Pittsburgh is also 7-3 in Nova’s last 10 home starts and 1-4 in his last five starts versus the NL West.

Ross had a rough outing against the Nats, giving up five earned in 6.0 innings, but came back with three hits and one earned in 6.0 innings his last time out. Nova, meanwhile, has given up 14 earned over his last three starts. I can’t trust Nova right now so I’m going Padres here.
