Pittsburgh Pirates -155 / San Francisco Giants +145 O/U: 7
The San Francisco Giants and the Pittsburgh Pirates will finish up their weekend MLB set on Sunday.
The Pirates won the Friday game of this set 4-1, then on Saturday Pittsburgh kept it going with a 3-1 victory in a rain-shortened game.
For Sunday’s game, the Giants will be sending out RHP Dereck Rodriguez in the start. Over 22.1 innings and a 2-2 record this year, Rodriguez has a 3.63 ERA with 18 Ks and four walks.
In Saturday’s matchup, Kevin Pillar had two of the Giants’ four hits, bagging a run as well. Steven Duggar added a hit and an RBI for San Francisco.
Over on the Pirates’ side, they’re going with Chris Archer on Sunday. In his 18.0 innings and 1-0 record on the season, Archer has a 2.00 ERA with 24 Ks and seven walks.
In the victory Saturday, Pittsburgh’s big hitter was Cole Tucker, who slapped a two-run homer in the fifth. Jung Ho Kang added a solo shot in the fourth for the Pirates.
The Giants are 4-23 in their last 27 in game three of a series and 0-8 in their last eight Sunday games. San Fran is 2-9 in Rodriguez’s last 11 starts and 6-2 in his last eight road starts.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 4-0 in the last four Sunday games and 7-3 in their last 10 in game three of a series. The under is 18-6 in Pittsburgh’s last 24 in game three of a series and 35-16-4 in their last 55 versus a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
Overall, Rodriguez has been pretty solid this year—he had the one outing with four earned in 5.1 innings versus Tampa, but the Rays are a great team and he only got two runs of support there anyway.
That said, Archer has come out firing so far, with four earned total across three starts. This should be a pretty fun pitching matchup if both guys are on. I like the Pirates to get a close and low-scoring home win here.
