The Line: Pittsburgh Pirates -115 / St. Louis Cardinals +105 --- Over/Under: 8
Out at PNC Park on Sunday, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates will be finishing up their weekend MLB series.
The Pirates took game one of this set Friday 8-1, then on Saturday the Cards logged a 4-1 win.
For the Sunday game, the Cardinals will be sending out RHP Miles Mikolas for the start. In his 60.1 innings and 6-0 record this year, Mikolas has a 2.24 ERA with 46 Ks and six walks.
Jose Martinez entered the weekend as the Cardinals’ top hitter with 53 hits, 19 runs and 30 RBI. On Saturday, Martinez put up three hits and an RBI.
Over on the Pirates’ side, they’re going with Jameson Taillon on Sunday. Across 41.1 innings and a 2-4 record this year, Taillon has a 4.56 ERA with 48 Ks and 16 BBs.
Pittsburgh’s big bat entering the weekend was Corey Dickerson with 58 hits, 23 runs and 31 RBI. In the Saturday game, Dickerson went 0-for-4.
The Cards are 1-4 in their last five during game three of a series and 4-0 in Mikolas’ last four starts. St. Louis is also 4-1 in Mikolas’ last five road starts and 4-0 in his last four starts on grass.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 8-3 in their last 11 Sunday games and 1-4 in their last five in game three of a series. Pittsburgh is also 5-0 in Taillon’s last five starts in game three of a series and 2-5 in his last seven starts.
It’s been a pretty good year for Mikolas; he’s allowed just three earned over his last four starts, and the most recent was a complete-game shutout of KC. As for Taillon, he coughed up six earned in 6.0 innings on eight hits in Cincinnati his last time out. With Mikolas on the mound, I have to go Cardinals here.
