Pittsburgh Pirates -103 / St. Louis Cardinals -107 O/U: 9
The St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates will meet up on the MLB diamond Tuesday to continue their series.
In the Monday opener of this set, We had a wild 10th inning as St. Louis slammed out four runs on a grand slam and held on for a 6-5 win.
For Tuesday’s game, the Cardinals will be sending out Dakota Hudson in the start. Across his 103.1 innings and 9-4 record this year, Hudson has a 3.57 ERA with 76 Ks and 47 BBs.
St. Louis put up eight hits in the Monday game, and made them count. The dagger came courtesy of Paul Goldschmidt, who ripped a grand slam—it was his only hit of the night.
Over on the Pirates’ side, they’re going with Chris Archer in the Tuesday game. Over 90.2 innings and a 3-6 mark so far, Archer has a 5.36 ERA with 106 Ks and 45 BBs.
Pittsburgh put up 12 hits in the Monday game but couldn’t get much going on the scoreboard until the 10th. Starling Marte led the way on three hits with two runs.
The Cardinals are 10-1 in Hudson’s last 11 starts and 6-1 in his last seven road starts. St. Louis is 6-1 in Hudson’s last seven starts in game two of a series and 0-4 in their last four Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 4-1 in their last five in game two of a series and 4-0 in Archer’s last four home starts. Pitt is 6-2 in Archer’s last eight starts with five days’ rest and the under is 3-0-1 in their last four Tuesday games.
Hudson has been pretty solid lately. He’s 3-0 in his last three starts, giving up eight earned on 15 hits in a span of 16.0 innings. Hudson is also 6-1 since May 30.
As for Archer, he has consecutive quality starts to his credit with six earned in 12.0 innings, but hasn’t won a game since June 6.
All things considered, this should be a nice pitching battle but I have to side with St. Louis on potential here.
