The St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates will meet up on the MLB diamond on Saturday.
In the Friday opener of this set, the Pirates bagged six runs in the seventh on the way to a 9-4 win.
For Saturday’s game, the Cardinals will send out Adam Wainwright to start. Over his 142.1 innings and 10-9 record this year, Wainwright has a 4.30 ERA with 131 Ks and 57 BBs.
Over on the Pirates’ side, they’re going with Steven Brault in the Saturday outing. Across 95.0 innings and a 4-3 mark so far, Brault has a 3.88 ERA with 80 Ks and 41 BBs.
The Cardinals are 8-0 in their last eight in game two of a series and 4-1 in their last five Saturday games. St. Louis is 5-1 in Wainwright’s last six road starts and 23-5 in his last 28 Saturday starts.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 5-0 in their last five in game two of a series and 2-6 in Brault’s last eight starts. Pittsburgh is 0-4 in Brault’s last four home starts and 0-6 in his last six versus the NL Central.
Wainwright had a couple of sketchy outings against Milwaukee last month but he posted a quality start his last time up with zero earned on four hits in 7.0 innings.
As for Brault, he has three quality starts in his last four games but is only 1-2 in that time. I’m not super confident in the Pitt offense so I’m siding with the Cards here.
