Pittsburgh Pirates -146 / Texas Rangers +136 O/U: 9
The Texas Rangers and the Pittsburgh Pirates will finish up their quick two-game MLB set with a matchup on Wednesday.
In the Tuesday game, the Pirates eked one out 5-4, scoring all five runs within the span of the third, fourth and fifth innings.
For Wednesday’s outing, the Rangers will be going with Shelby Miller in the start. Over 23.2 innings and a 1-2 mark this year, Miller has a 7.99 ERA with 13 Ks and 20 walks.
Texas managed five hits in the Tuesday loss, and three of them belonged to Hunter Pence. In that game, Pence put up a two-run homer and finished with all four RBI.
Over on the Pirates’ side, they’re sending out Nick Kingham on Wednesday. In his 12.2 innings and 1-0 record so far, Kingham has one save, a 6.39 ERA, 13 Ks and six walks.
In the win on Tuesday, Gregory Polanco was the top hitter for the Pirates, logging a two-run homer in the fifth inning that would prove to be the deciding tallies.
The Rangers are 3-7 in the last 10 Wednesday games and the over is 4-0-1 in their last five in game two of a series. The under is 13-5-1 in Texas’ last 19 Wednesday games and the over is 3-0-1 in MIller’s last four starts.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 7-3 in their last 10 Wednesday games and 11-5 in their last 16 in game two of a series. Pittsburgh is 2-5 in Kingham’s last seven home starts and 1-4 in his last five starts.
Well, although Miller hasn’t been good this year, he’s at least been consistent. In four of his last five starts, Miller has allowed four earned runs (three in the other one) and at least two walks in all of them.
As for Kingham, he’s had some stumbles as well with seven earned over his last 6.1 innings. I don’t like either pitcher or either team in this situation, but as a lesser-of-two-evils scenario I’m going Pittsburgh.
