The Colorado Rockies and the Chicago Cubs face off on Friday at Coors field in game one of the MLB series.
The Colorado Rockies got the season started on the right foot sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers on the road. The Rockies have an early one game lead in the NL West and outscored the Brewers 20-6 in the three game series. As a team the Rockies are hitting .322 with Nolan Arenado hitting .462, Troy Tulowitzki hitting .429, and Corey Dickerson hitting .417. The Rockies pitching staff has an ERA of 1.93 with both the starters and the bullpen coming in at that number. For Friday’s game the Rockies start lefty Tyler Matzek who was 6-11 with a 4.05 ERA last season striking out 91 over 117.2 innings.
The Chicago Cubs split their season opening series with the Cardinals one game each with one game getting postponed. The Cubs are 1.5 games behind the Reds in the NL Central standings after scoring just two runs in their first two games. As a team the Cubs are hitting just .125 with Sarlin Castro hitting .286, Chris Coughlan hitting .167, and Jorge Soler hitting .143. The Cubs pitching staff has an ERA of 1.50 with the starters at 2.38 and the bullpen at 0.00. For game one in Colorado the Cubs start Travis Wood who went 8-13 with a 5.03 ERA last season striking out 146 over 173.2 innings.
Colorado is 10-1 as a home favorite, 21-8 in their last 29 home games, 9-28 in game one of a series, and 5-13 in Matzek’s last 18 starts. Chicago is 3-8 in their last 11 road games, 1-5 against the NL West, 5-1 as a road underdog, and 2-5 in Wood’s last seven starts. Chicago is 4-13 in their last 17 games in Colorado.
