MLB | Arizona Diamondbacks (57-80) at San Diego Padres (65-71)

The San Diego Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks face off on Tuesday for game two of their series.

The San Diego Padres rode strong pitching on Monday to get the win over the D-Backs at PETCO Park. Yasmani Grandal and Jedd Gyorko each had two hits and Will Venable had a hit as the Padres scored three runs on eight hits. Startimg pitcher Tyson Ross allowed six hits and a run while striking out eight over .0 innings to ge the win and raise his record to 13-12 for the season and Kevin Quackenbush earned his second save. For Tuesday’s game Ordisamer Despaigne gets the start for Dan Diego and he has lost five of his last six decisions. For the season Despaigne has allowed 65 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 50 over 72.1 innings for a 3-5 record and a 3.24 ERA.

The Arizona Diamondbacks just never got anything going on Monday as they lost to the Padres. Ender Inciarte and Miguel Montero had two hits each and David Peralta had a hit as the Diamondbacks scored one run on six hits. Starting pitcher Trevor Cahill allowed five hits and three runs while striking out five over 4.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 3-10 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the D-backs start Wade Miley who has lost his last three decisions. For the season Miley has allowed 174 hits and 84 earned runs while striking out 163 over 176 innings for a 7-10 record and a 4.30 ERA.

San Diego is 11-1 as a home favorite, 6-1 in their last seven games, and 4-1 in Despaigne’s last five games against a team with a losing record. Arizona is 3-7 following a loss, 4-12 in their last 16 games, and 0-5 in Miley’s last five starts. Arizona is 2-5 in Miley’s last seven road starts at San Diego.

Miley has pitched well of late and I look for Arizona to ride him to the win here.
