The Line: San Diego Padres +118 / Chicago Cubs -128 --- Over/Under: 8
The Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres meet Friday in MLB action at Petco Park.
The Chicago Cubs look to stay hot after winning nine of their last 12 games. The Cubs have scored seven runs in their last three games and four or more runs in 11 of their last 14 games. The Chicago Cubs have won 26 of their last 34 games when scoring more than one run. Javier Baez leads the Cubs with 95 hits and 66 RBI while Albert Almora Jr. and Willson Contreras have combined for 166 hits and 62 RBI. Tyler Chatwood gets the ball, and he is 3-5 with a 5.01 ERA and 74 strikeouts this season. Chatwood is 6-2 with a 4.17 ERA and 54 strikeouts in his career against the Padres.
The San Diego Padres could use a win here after losing five of their last seven games. The Padres have allowed eight runs in their last three games and four or more runs in six of their last 11 games. The San Diego Padres have lost 10 of their last 13 games when allowing more than one run. Offensively, Eric Hosmer leads the Padres with 89 hits and 38 RBI while Jose Pirela and Freddy Galvis have combined for 167 hits and 57 RBI. Clayton Richard gets the ball, and he is 7-8 with a 4.50 ERA and 88 strikeouts this season. Richard is 2-1 with a 2.60 ERA and 11 strikeouts in his career against the Cubs.
The Cubs are 7-2 in their last 9 Friday games, 2-5 in their last 7 during game 1 of a series and 5-2 in Chatwoods last 7 starts. The Padres are 15-38 in their last 53 during game 1 of a series, 2-6 in their last 8 home games and 6-2 in Richards last 8 starts. The under is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings in San Diego and 6-0 in the last 6 meetings.
We've made some nice money fading the Cubs this week, but I can't honestly back either of these pitchers. Chatwood has given up 16 hits and 14 runs in his last 10.2 innings, which Richard has given up three or more runs in six of his last nine starts and sometimes has trouble throwing strikes, as he's walked nine batters in his last 11 innings. Good luck finding out which one of these guys can get their act together, but I'm not playing that guessing game. The under is a popular trend when these teams meet, but this game seems like an over the total.
