Colorado Rockies (72-62) at San Diego Padres (54-83)
|Date & Time||Saturday September 1, 2018, 8:40 PM (EDT)|
The Line: San Diego Padres +135 / Colorado Rockies -145 --- Over/Under: 7.5
The Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres meet Saturday in MLB action at Petco Park.
The Colorado Rockies could use a win after losing five of their last seven games. The Rockies have scored five runs in their last three games and three or less runs in five of their last 10 games. The Colorado Rockies have lost five of their last six games when scoring three or less runs. Trevor Story leads the Rockies with 148 hits and 85 RBI while Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon have combined for 286 hits and 147 RBI. Jon Gray gets the ball, and he is 10-7 with a 4.76 ERA and 163 strikeouts this season. Gray is 7-3 with a 2.67 ERA and 111 strikeouts in his career against the Padres.
The San Diego Padres look for another victory to build on their four-game winning streak. The Padres have scored 18 runs in their last three games and three or less runs in six of their last nine games. The San Diego Padres have won six of their last 11 games when scoring more than one run. Eric Hosmer leads the Padres with 133 hits and 56 RBI while Freddy Galvis and Manuel Margot have combined for 222 hits and 101 RBI. Robbie Erlin gets the ball, and he is 3-4 with a 3.69 ERA and 68 strikeouts this season. Erlin is 4-2 with a 6.06 ERA and 30 strikeouts in his career against the Rockies.
The Rockies are 8-1 in their last 9 Saturday games, 4-1 in Grays last 5 road starts and 9-1 in Grays last 10 starts. The Padres are 3-14 in their last 17 during game 3 of a series, 1-4 in Erlins last 5 home starts and 4-10 in Erlins last 14 starts. The Rockies are 4-1 in Grays last 5 starts vs. Padres and the under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings.
I have zero confidence that the San Diego Padres can keep this winning streak going for much longer, and Erlin isn't a consistent starter, so this is likely going to be a bullpen game for the home team. The Rockies are money with Gray on the mound, as they've won nine of his last 10 starts and have lost just three times with him on the mound since June 6. Gray also drops his batting average 15 points when you take him out of Coors. I'll lay the somewhat reasonable price with the Colorado Rockies in this spot.
