The San Diego Padres and the New York Mets face off on Wednesday at PETCO Park for game three of their MLB series.
The San Diego Padres got the bats going on Tuesday as they pounded the Mets in game two of their series. Derek Norris hit a home run, Yonder Alonso had three hits, and Corey Soangenberg had three hits as the Padres scored seven runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Ian Kennedy allowed six hits and two runs while striking out eight over 6.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 3-5 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Padres start James Shields who has allowed 64 hits and 28 earned runs while striking out 88 over 68.1 innings for a 6-0 record and a 3.69 ERA.
The New York Mets simply didn’t have it on Tuesday as they were trounced by the Padres. Michael Cuddyer had three hits, Ruben Tejada had two hits, and Curtis Granderson ahd a hit as the Mets scored two runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard crashed back to Earth allowing 10 hits and seven runs while striking out 10 over 4.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-3 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Mets will start Dillon Gee who returns to the Mets rotation after a stint on the DL with his last start in the Majors back on May 3rd.
San Diego is 35-17 as a home favorite, 4-8 in their last 12 home games, and 6-0 in Shields’ last six starts. New York is 5-1 against the NL West, 7-19 in their last 26 games as an underdog, and 12-3 in Gee’s last 15 Wednesday starts.
The total in this one is set at 6.5 but I see a real battle being waged and this one falling short of that number so my free pick is the under. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that pick in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
