The Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres meet Saturday in MLB action at Petco Park.

The Pittsburgh Pirates could use a feel good win after losing six of their last nine games. The Pirates have scored 14 runs in their last three games and three or less runs in seven of their last 10 games. The Pittsburgh Pirates have won eight of their last 12 games when scoring more than three runs. Corey Dickerson leads the Pirates with 82 hits and 32 RBI while Starling Marte and Josh Bell have combined for 142 hits and 75 RBI. Trevor Williams gets the ball, and he is 6-5 with a 4.03 ERA and 64 strikeouts this season. This will be Williams’ second career game against the Padres.

The San Diego Padres could also use a victory here after losing 10 of their last 12 games. The Padres have allowed 13 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last 11 games. The San Diego Padres have lost nine straight games when allowing more than two runs. Offensively, Eric Hosmer leads the Padres with 85 hits and 36 RBI while Jose Pirela and Freddy Galvis have combined for 152 hits and 53 RBI. Joey Lucchesi gets the ball, and he is 3-3 with a 3.57 ERA and 55 strikeouts this season. This will be Lucchesi’s first career game against the Pirates.

The Pirates are 1-5 in their last 6 Saturday games, 1-4 in Williams' last 5 road starts and 2-5 in Williams' last 7 starts. The Padres are 5-1 in their last 6 during game 2 of a series, 7-2 in their last 9 Saturday games and 2-7 in Lauers last 9 starts. The Pirates are 2-5 in the last 7 meetings in San Diego and the over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.

There's much better games on the card than trying to figure out which one of these struggling clubs is going to show up. But if forced to pick, give me the Pirates. Williams has been rather solid as of late, which includes allowing just six hits and three runs in his last 13 innings of work. Lucchesi has allowed three or more runs in four of his last seven starts and is playing for a Padres club that continues to find ways to lose. I find very little value in backing the San Diego Padres, a squad that can't score or finish a game. Give me the Pirates.
