The Line: San Diego Padres +117 / Seattle Mariners -127 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres meet Tuesday in MLB action at Petco Park.
The Seattle Mariners look for a spark of consistency after splitting their last 10 games. The Mariners have scored 12 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in five of their last eight games. The Seattle Mariners have won eight of their last 10 games when scoring more than two runs. Jean Segura leads the Mariners with 155 hits and 58 RBI while Mitch Haniger and Dee Gordon have combined for 264 hits and 108 RBI. Felix Hernandez gets the ball, and he is 8-11 with a 5.64 ERA and 107 strikeouts this season. Hernandez is 6-3 with a 2.90 ERA and 87 strikeouts in his career against the Padres.
The San Diego Padres could use a win here in order to snap a five-game losing streak. The Padres have allowed 23 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in 10 of their last 12 games. The San Diego Padres have lost 10 of their last 11 games when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, Eric Hosmer leads the Padres with 128 hits and 55 RBI while Freddy Galvis and Manuel Margot have combined for 217 hits and 97 RBI. Jacob Nix gets the ball, and he is 1-2 with a 6.17 ERA and seven strikeouts this season. This will be Nix’s first career game against the Mariners.
The Mariners are 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss, 1-5 in Hernandezs last 6 road starts and 1-5 in Hernandezs last 6 starts. The Padres are 8-20 in their last 28 games following a loss, 5-16 in their last 21 games following an off day and 5-22 in their last 27 home games. The Mariners are 19-9 in the last 28 meetings in San Diego, 7-3 in Hernandezs last 10 starts vs. Padres and 6-1 in Hernandezs last 7 road starts vs. Padres.
Felix Hernandez is a shell of himself and has made for great fade material this season, so I certainly don't want to back him. However, the San Diego Padres have been that team that finds creative ways to lose and at this point guys are counting the days until the offseason. The Mariners also have to take advantage of series' like this one if they're going to get back into the playoff race. Given the cheap price and the fact they still have something to play for, give me the Mariners.
