The Line: San Francisco Giants -105 / Colorado Rockies -105 --- Over/Under: 7.5
The Colorado Rockies and the San Francisco Giants meet in the finale of their three game set from AT&T Park in MLB action on Sunday.
The Colorado Rockies will look to rebound after being shut out in game two on Saturday by a final score of 3-0. Nolan Arenado and DJ LeMahieu each had a double while Trevor Story, Matt Holliday, Ian Desmond, Charlie Blackmon and starting pitcher German Marquez each had a base knock in the losing effort. Marquez took the loss on the mound, falling to 12-10 this season after allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out four over six innings of work. Antonio Senzatela will start game three and is 4-6 with a 5.01 ERA and 56 strikeouts this season. In his career, Senzatela is 4-0 with a 3.57 ERA and 26 strikeouts against San Francisco.
The San Francisco Giants will look to take the set after their victory in game two. Austin Slater and Hunter Pence each had an RBI while Nick Hundley and starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner each added a double. Evan Longoria went 2 for 3 while Gregor Blanco, Brandon Crawford and Gorkys Hernandez each contributed a base hit in the winning effort. Bumgarner got the win after tossing six shutout innings, allowing just five hits to improve to 6-6 this season. Will Smith closed out the 9th for his 12th save of the season. Dereck Rodriguez will start game three and is 6-3 with a 2.35 ERA and 81 strikeouts this season. This will be Rodriguez’s second career start against Colorado.
Colorado is 5-2 in their last 7 Sunday games and 1-5 in Senzatela’s last 6 road starts while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 road games. San Francisco is 0-4 in Rodriguez’s last 4 starts and 2-11 in their last 13 games overall while the under is 10-0 in their last 10 home games against a team with a winning record. Colorado is 5-0 in Senzatela’s last 5 starts against San Francisco.
Normally seeing Senzatela on the board leans me the other direction with an ERA over five going up against Rodriguez who has been a solid arm for San Fran this season. However, the Giants have lost Rodriguez’s last four starts and the Rockies are simply the team with more to play for here as the Giants are reduced to playing the role of spoiler in this matchup. Senzatela has allowed just three runs in 12 innings against San Fran this season and is 4-0 in his career against the Giants. While the Rockies were shutout in the first two games of the set, I expect Colorado to bounce back with a big win on Sunday.
