Seattle Mariners +170 O/U: 7
The Boston Red Sox and the Seattle Mariners will meet up in MLB action on Thursday from Safeco Field.
For the Thursday start, the Red Sox will be sending out Chris Sale. In 2018, Sale had a great year with a 12-4 record, a 2.11 ERA and 237 strikeouts across 158.0 innings of work.
Leading the Red Sox in hitting this spring was Rafael Devers with 20 hits, seven runs and seven RBI. Jackie Bradley was second on 14 hits, 10 runs, three homers and eight RBI in preseason play.
Over on the Mariners’ side, they’re going with Marco Gonzales on Thursday. Gonzales already has one win under his belt this year, taking out Oakland with 6.0 innings, seven hits and three earned.
Tim Beckham is the top hitter for Seattle in their two games so far, with five hits, four runs, one homer and two RBI. Dee Gordon and Ryon Healy are both tied for second with three hits apiece.
The Red Sox are 4-0 in their last four versus the AL West and 5-0 in their last five Thursday games. Boston is 7-1 in their last eight road games and 5-0 in Sale’s last five road starts.
Meanwhile, the Mariners are 5-0 in their last five overall and 4-1 in their last five Thursday games. Seattle is 0-4 in Gonzales’ last four home starts and 2-7 in his last nine starts.
Sale had a couple of sketchy (well, sketchy for him) seasons in his last years in Chicago, but he’s been great while he’s been with Boston. It’s gotten to the point where you can just about pencil in a win every time he steps on the mound.
As for Gonzales, he looked pretty solid in his first outing this season and should hold Boston at bay (in relative terms at least). Still, I like the Sox to eke one out here.
