|Date & Time||Saturday March 30, 2019, 9:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Boston Red Sox -150 / Seattle Mariners +140 -- Over/Under: 8
The Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners meet Saturday in MLB action at T-Mobile Park.
The Boston Red Sox got their first win of the season thanks to a pinch-hit three-run homer from Mitch Moreland in the ninth inning. Before that crack of the bat, it looked like the Red Sox were going to start 0-2 for the first time since 2012. The Boston Red Sox need to get better pitching wise, but the offense is off to a strong start and showed last year it’s more than capable of carrying the load most nights. Mookie Betts leads the Red Sox with four hits while J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts have combined for five hits and three RBI. Eduardo Rodriguez gets the ball, and he was 13-5 with a 3.82 ERA and 146 strikeouts last season. Rodriguez is 2-2 with a 3.58 ERA and 27 strikeouts in his career against the Mariners.
The Seattle Mariners suffer their first loss of the season when Hunter Strickland had his first poor outing with his new team. Still, the Mariners are off to a strong 3-1 start and the offense has put up five or more runs in all four games. While we’re still in the first week of the season, the Seattle Mariners have easily exceeded expectations. With the moves the M’s made this offseason, this felt like a rebuilding year, and this club has played well up to this point. Tim Beckham leads the Mariners with eight hits and five RBI while Domingo Santana and Mitch Haniger have combined for 12 hits and 12 RBI. Mike Leake gets the ball, and he was 10-10 with a 4.36 ERA and 119 strikeouts last season. Leake is 1-3 with a 5.30 ERA and 20 strikeouts in his career against the Red Sox.
The Red Sox are 41-13 in their last 54 during game 3 of a series, 11-1 in Rodriguez's last 12 road starts and 36-16 in Rodriguez's last 52 starts. The Mariners are 7-1 in their last 8 Saturday games, 4-0 in Leake's last 4 starts vs. American League East and 4-1 in Leake's last 5 home starts. The under is 11-5 in the last 16 meetings in Seattle and 14-6 in the last 20 meetings. The under is 4-1 in Mariners last 5 vs. American League East. The under is 41-19-2 in Rodriguez's last 62 starts overall.
The Boston Red Sox have a ton of success when Rodriguez pitches, which includes wins in 11 of his last 12 road starts. Rodriguez also allowed just a .213 batting average on the road last season, so while his ERA was slightly higher than at home, you could argue his best work came outside of Fenway. Leake was rather easy to hit a season ago, as he had an allowed batting average of .280, and he's giving up a batting average of .338 with four homers in 134 at bats against current Red Sox hitters. This could end up being a comfortable road win for Boston.
