Boston Red Sox at Seattle Mariners
|Date & Time||Sunday March 31, 2019, 4:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Boston Red Sox -145 / Seattle Mariners +135 -- Over/Under: 8.5
The Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners meet Sunday in MLB action at T-Mobile Park.
The Boston Red Sox hope to avoid a series loss before heading to Oakland four a 4-game series. The Red Sox have been tagged for six or more runs in all three games and have given up a combined nine homers. Early in the season or not, the Red Sox don’t look anything like the team from a few months ago and some may call it a World Series hangover. The Boston Red Sox should figure it out soon considering they don’t come home until April 9. J.D. Martinez leads the Red Sox with five hits and three RBI while Rafael Devers and Mookie Betts have combined for eight hits. Rick Porcello gets the ball, and he was 17-7 with a 4.28 ERA and 190 strikeouts last season. Porcello is 6-5 with a 3.80 ERA and 77 strikeouts in his career against the Mariners.
The Seattle Mariners look to build on what’s been a shocking 4-1 start to the season. The Mariners pitching staff hasn’t been great, but the lineup is hitting a solid .258 and has left the yard 13 times. The M’s have been fun to watch and if it continues, a lot of critics will be silenced, myself included. The Seattle Mariners haven’t started a season this well since 2014 when they began the season with a 6-3 record. Tim Beckham leads the Mariners with nine hits and six RBI while Domingo Santana and Ryon Healy have combined for 15 hits and 16 RBI. Wade LeBlanc gets the ball, and he was 9-5 with a 3.72 ERA and 130 strikeouts last season. LeBlanc is 1-0 with a 5.06 ERA and 17 strikeouts in his career against the Red Sox.
The Red Sox are 12-1 in their last 13 during game 4 of a series, 13-5 in their last 18 vs. American League West and 9-4 in Porcello's last 13 road starts. The Mariners are 2-5 in their last 7 Sunday games, 8-3 in their last 11 during game 4 of a series and 22-10 in LeBlanc's last 32 starts. The over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Seattle and 5-2 in the last 7 meetings. The over is 5-0 in LeBlanc's last 5 home starts. The over is 20-7-1 in Red Sox last 28 overall.
Porcello isn't exactly a pitcher I'm laying to lay juice with, especially on the road. In 119 career at bats against current Mariners, Porcello is allowing a .269 batting average with three homers and 15 RBI. The Seattle Mariners have a ton of success at home with LeBlanc at home, a place where he allowed a .237 batting average and would have been even better if he was able to keep the ball in the park a bit more. The Seattle Mariners have been the most surprising team out the gate and have a pitcher they have a ton of success with. There's value with the plus money here.
