Los Angeles Angels (98-67) at Seattle Mariners (87-75)
|Date & Time||Monday April 6, 2015, 4:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Seattle Mariners -144 / Los Angeles Angels +134 --- Over/Under: 6.5
The Los Angeles Angels open the 2015 season at Safeco Field with division rival Seattle Mariners.
The Los Angeles Angels are looking for consecutive American League West titles after winning the most games of any team. Unfortunately that didn’t translate in to postseason success as the Angels were quickly ousted. The team didn’t make many big moves to a productive lineup with Howie Kendrick gone while Josh Hamilton is out with a recurring drug issue but with Mike Trout and Albert Pujols anchoring the lineup, nobody is looking to face this team. Veteran Jered Weaver is the ace on the mound with CJ Wilson and Matt shoemaker falling in line while waiting for Garrett Richards to return from injury. Jered Weaver draws the opening day start for the Angels after going 18-9 with a 3.59 ERA over 213 innings pitched a season ago.
The Seattle Mariners enjoyed one of their best seasons in recent memory in 2014 but the bottom line was still no postseason. The Mariners have long been known for their struggles at the plate and lack of scoring and that trend continued a year ago with the M’s being one of the poorer offensives in the American League even with the addition of Robinson Cano. The additions of Nelson Cruz and Smith are hoping to give the scoring a boost and alleviate some of the pressure on Cano. The team has the arms to keep the Mariners competitive regardless of the support with Felix Hernandez leading this group followed by Hisashi Iwakuma. James Paxton was solid at the end of the year and if Taijuan Walker can continue to improve the M’s will be in the playoff hunt. Felix Hernandez draws the opening day start after going 15-6 with a 2.14 ERA in 2014.
For the Angels Under is 9-3 in their last 12 Monay games while the over is 11-4 in the Angels last 15 road games and 15-5-1 in Weavers last 21 road starts. For Seattle the over is 6-2 in Seattle's last 8 games as a favorite while the under is 37-14-3 in Seattle last 54 home games with the over is 7-3 in Seattle last 10 overall.
Hernandez is a threat to toss a shutout every time he takes the mound versus any team so I’ll back him…
