|Date & Time||Wednesday September 12, 2018, 6:40 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Seattle Mariners -172 / San Diego Padres +162 --- Over/Under: 8
The San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners meet Wednesday in MLB action at Safeco Field.
The San Diego Padres look for another win after splitting their last 10 games. The Padres have scored 11 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in five of their last 10 games. The San Diego Padres have won four of their last six games when scoring at least one run. Eric Hosmer leads the Padres with 141 hits and 62 RBI while Freddy Galvis and Manuel Margot have combined for 232 hits and 104 RBI. Joey Lucchesi gets the ball, and he is 7-8 with a 3.59 ERA and 120 strikeouts this season. This will be Lucchesi’s second career game against the Mariners.
The Seattle Mariners need a victory here after losing five of their last eight games. The Mariners have scored six runs in their last three games and three or less runs in seven of their last eight games. The Seattle Mariners have lost six of their last nine games when scoring five or less runs. Jean Segura leads the Mariners with 165 hits and 60 RBI while Mitch Haniger and Dee Gordon have combined for 284 hits and 113 RBI. Wade LeBlanc gets the ball, and he is 8-3 with a 3.56 ERA and 112 strikeouts this season. LeBlanc is 0-1 with a 2.61 ERA and six strikeouts in his career against the Padres.
The Padres are 8-20 in their last 28 Wednesday games, 3-13 in their last 16 during game 2 of a series and 2-5 in Lucchesis last 7 road starts. The Mariners are 5-12 in their last 17 interleague games, 0-4 in their last 4 during game 2 of a series and 20-8 in LeBlancs last 28 starts. The Padres are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in Seattle and the over is 5-1-1 in the last 7 meetings.
The Seattle Mariners have all but watched the playoff race slip away from them with a brutal second half of the season and losing games they should have no business losing. While LeBlanc has been solid this season, I'm not sure why anybody would be laying such heavy prices with the Mariners in their current form. Should Seattle win this game? Yes. But the Mariners should have also won yesterday and not lost series' to the Blue Jays and Rangers. The Padres are also now 3-0 against Seattle in the second half. I'll take a shot with the plus money here.
