The Line: Seattle Mariners -111 / Tampa Bay Rays +101 --- Over/Under: 8
Coming up from Safeco Field on Sunday, the Tampa Bay Rays and the Seattle Mariners will be finishing up their MLB series.
The Mariners eked out a 4-3 victory on Friday in the opener, then on Saturday Seattle logged a 3-1 win.
For the Sunday game, the Rays will be bringing out LHP Blake Snell. In his 70.1 innings and 7-3 record this year, Snell has a 2.56 ERA with 76 Ks and 23 BBs.
Heading into the weekend, CJ Cron was the top Rays hitter on 60 hits, 32 runs, 12 homers and 32 RBI. On Saturday, Cron came up empty 0-for-4.
As for the Mariners, they’re going with Felix Hernandez on Sunday. Across 66.1 innings and a 5-4 record this year, Hernandez has a 5.83 ERA with 55 Ks and 28 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Mariners this season is Jean Segura, who brought 77 hits, 42 runs and 37 RBI into the weekend. In game two, Segura had one hit and one run.
The Rays are 6-0 in their last six in game three of a series and 1-4 in their last five Sunday games. Tampa is also 7-0 in Snell’s last seven starts versus the AL West and 7-3 in his last 10 starts.
Meanwhile, the Mariners are 5-12 in the last 17 Sunday games and 4-1 in Hernandez’s last five starts versus the AL East. Seattle is 1-6 in Hernandez’s last seven Sunday starts and the over is 5-2 in their last seven in game three of a series.
Snell has been pretty solid this year, and he’s allowed just two earned runs in his last three starts. As for Hernandez, he’s been shaky to say the least, with 22 earned across his last five starts. If Hernandez can’t find his groove, this will be a good spot for the Rays to manage a victory.
