Up at Safeco Field on Monday, the Texas Rangers and the Seattle Mariners will be kicking off their MLB set.

The Rangers are coming off a series versus the Royals. After taking two of the first three games in that set, on Sunday Texas lost 5-3.

Doug Fister will be taking the mound for the Rangers on Monday. In his 49.0 innings and 1-4 record this year, Fister has a 4.22 ERA with 35 Ks and 16 BBs.

Tops in hitting for the Rangers this year is Nomar Mazara, who entered the week with 54 hits, 30 runs, 12 homers and 34 RBI. On Sunday, Mazara had one hit.

As for the Mariners, they just finished up against the Twins. Seattle took the first two games of that series, each by one run apiece, then in the Sunday finale they won again 3-1.

Seattle is going with Marco Gonzales on Monday. Across 53.1 innings and a 4-3 record this year, Gonzales has a 4.05 ERA with 49 Ks and 11 BBs.

Jean Segura is way out in front for the Mariners with 69 hits, 36 runs and 34 RBI coming into the week. In the Sunday game, Ryon Healy put up three hits and two RBI.

The Rangers are 11-24 in their last 35 versus the AL West and 7-19 in their last 26 Monday games. Texas is also 5-17 in their last 22 in game one of a series and 0-4 in Fister’s last four starts with four days’ rest.

Meanwhile, the Mariners are 4-1 in their last five in game one of a series and 2-5 in Gonzales’ last seven starts versus a team with a losing record. Seattle is also 1-5 in Gonzales’ last six starts in game one of a series and the under is 7-1 in their last eight in game one of a series.

Fister had a pretty good run going there for a couple of games but he gave up six earned and 11 hits in 4.1 innings his last time out. As for Gonzales, he’s given up seven hits and zero earned over his last two starts in a span of 12.2 innings. I’m not super confident in the Mariners right now but I think Gonzales can put them in a position to win. I’ll take Seattle.

Seattle Mariners -153
