The Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals will match up on the MLB diamond to kick off their series Friday.

Atlanta is coming off a four-game set versus the Giants this week. The Braves fell Tuesday 4-3 but took the Monday (4-1) and Wednesday (9-2) games of that set. In Thursday’s finale, Atlanta eked out a 5-4 win in 13 innings.

For Friday’s matchup, the Braves will be sending out Mike Foltynewicz in the start. Across 27.1 innings and an 0-3 mark this year, Foltynewicz has a 6.91 ERA with 17 Ks and eight walks.

Over on the Cardinals’ side, they just finished against the Royals. After a postponement in one of those games, St. Louis split the Wednesday doubleheader with an 8-2 loss and a 10-3 victory.

For Friday’s game, the Cardinals will be going with Miles Mikolas in the start. Across 55.1 innings and a 4-4 mark this year, Mikolas has a 4.88 ERA with 37 Ks and 10 BBs.

The Braves are 7-3 in their last 10 Friday games and 2-8 in Foltynewicz’s last 10 Friday starts. Atlanta is 0-7 in Foltynewicz’s last seven starts and 0-7 in his last seven on grass.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 1-5 in their last six after an off day and 5-14 in their last 19 overall. St. Louis is 20-6 in Mikolas’ last 26 starts and 1-4 in his last five Friday starts.

Mikolas was cruising along pretty nicely with three straight quality starts, but hit the wall in his last outing against the Rangers. In that one, Mikolas gave up seven earned on nine hits in 1.1 innings.

As for Foltynewicz, he coughed up eight earned in 4.2 innings the last time he faced the Cardinals May 14, but had a quality start in his last outing versus Milwaukee with two earned in 6.0 innings.

Still, I think St. Louis is in total control here in a comfy home game after an off day so I’ll take them.
