MLB | Boston Red Sox (49-63) at St. Louis Cardinals (60-51)

The St. Louis Cardinals and the Boston Red Sox face off on Wednesday at Busch Stadium as they continue their interleague series.

The St. Louis Cardinals took the lead late o Tuesday and held on for the win against the Red Sox. Matt Carpenter and A.J. Pierzynski each had two hits and Matt Holliday and Matt Adams each had hits as the Cardinals scored three runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Lance Lynn allowed four hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out four over 7.0 innings to not get the decision as Pat Neshek got the win to go to 5-0 for the season and Trevor Rosenthal earned his 35th save. For Wednesday’s game the Cardinals start Shelby Miller who is coming off of a win in his last start. For the season Miller has allowed 114 hits and 56 earned runs while striking out 81 over 121.2 innings for an 8-8 record and a 4.14 ERA.

The Boston Red Sox have packed it in for the season and we saw them let another one slip away as they lost to the Cardinals on Tuesday. Yoenis Cespedes had three hits and Dustin Pedroia and Daniel Nava each had his as the Red Sox scored two runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Rubby De La Rosa allowed six hits and a run while striking out three over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Tom Layne blew the save and Junichi Tazawa took the loss to fall to 1-3 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Red Sox start Joe Kelly who makes his first start for Boston since being traded by the Cardinals. Kelly was involved in the Cards trade for John Lackey.

St. Louis is 5-2 in game two of a series, 5-9 against the AL East, and 2-5 in Miller’s last seven starts. Boston is 4-1 in their last five games as an interleague underdog, 1-6 in their last seven road games, and 2-7 against the NL Central. Boston is 5-3 in their last eight games against St. Louis.

The Cardinals are just the better team right now and for that reason alone they are my choice here.
