The Line: St. Louis Cardinals -120 / Chicago Cubs +110 --- Over/Under: 8
Saturday night from Busch Stadium, we’ve got another installment of a fun MLB rivalry series and the Chicago Cubs visit the St. Louis Cardinals.
In the Friday opener, Chicago scored six runs in the fifth inning on the way to a 13-5 blowout.
For Saturday’s game, the Cubs are going with RHP Kyle Hendricks in the start. Over his 77.2 innings and 4-6 record this year, Hendricks has a 3.48 ERA with 61 Ks and 19 BBs.
Leading the way for the Cubs in hitting entering this set was Kris Bryant with 65 hits, 36 runs and 29 RBI. On Friday, Bryant had a homer with four RBI.
Over on the Cards’ side, they’re rolling with Carlos Martinez on Saturday. Across 57.2 innings and a 3-3 record this year, Martinez has a 2.50 ERA with 57 Ks and 34 walks.
Jose Martinez was the top hitter for the Cards entering this series on 75 hits, 32 runs and 42 RBI. In the opener, Tyler Pham posted a solo homer.
The Cubs are 4-1 in their last five in game two of a series and 15-3 in Hendricks’ last 18 Saturday starts. Chicago is also 1-4 in Hendricks’ last five road starts and 1-5 in his last six starts.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 7-3 in their last 10 Saturday games and 31-15 in their last 46 in game two of a series. St. Louis is also 5-1 in Martinez’s last six starts with five days’ rest and 6-2 in his last eight home starts.
Aside from five earned in 5.0 innings against the Phillies, Hendricks has been pretty good over his last four starts, with four combined earned in 17.0 innings. Martinez was going strong for a while there, but then he coughed up five earned in 3.2 innings in Cincinnati his last time up. This should be a good pitching matchup and a fun one to watch, but I like Martinez and the Cards to eke one out.
