Down at Busch Stadium on Saturday, the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals will be continuing their weekend MLB series.
In the Friday opener, the Cards scored all their runs in the third and fourth innings, rolling to a 5-2 victory.
For Saturday’s game, the Cubs will be sending out LHP Jose Quintana. In his 104.2 innings and 9-6 record this year, Quintana has a 3.87 ERA with 93 Ks and 49 BBs.
Tops in hitting for Chicago this year is Javier Baez, who entered this set on 109 hits, 63 runs, 19 homers and 74 RBI. On Friday, Baez had a solo homer among his two hits.
Over on the Cards’ side, they’re rolling out Miles Mikolas on Saturday. Across 124.1 innings and a 10-3 mark this season, Mikolas has a 2.82 ERA with 89 Ks and 22 BBs.
Marcell Ozuna leads the charge for the Cardinals, and he entered this set on 10 hits, 39 runs, 10 homers and 51 RBI. In the opener, Ozuna had a pair of hits.
The Cubs are 4-1 in their last five Saturday games and 12-4 in their last 16 in game two of a series. Chicago is 5-2 in Quintana’s last seven road starts and 20-8 in his last 28 starts.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 2-5 in their last seven in game two of a series and 6-2 in Mikolas’ last eight starts with five days’ rest. The over is 4-1 in St. Louis’ last five Saturday games and 4-0 in Mikolas’ last four starts overall.
Quintana is sitting on three straight quality starts right now, allowing four earned over a total of 19.0 innings in that span. As for Mikolas, he’s given up more than two earned just once over his last half-dozen outings. This should be a fun pitching matchup and a close game. I’m probably staying away, but otherwise giving the Cubs a minor advantage and taking the under.
