Chicago White Sox (8-18) at St. Louis Cardinals (15-12)
|Date & Time||Wednesday May 2, 2018, 1:15 PM (EDT)|
The Line: St. Louis Cardinals -250 / Chicago White Sox +229 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Coming up on Wednesday, the Chicago White Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals will be finishing up their set from Busch Stadium.
In the Tuesday game, the Cardinals secured a walk-off victory in the bottom of the ninth 3-2.
For Wednesday’s matchup, the Sox will be bringing out RHP Lucas Giolito for the start. In his 25.2 innings and 1-3 mark this year, Giolito has a 7.71 ERA with 11 Ks and 21 BBs.
Coming into Tuesday’s game, the Sox’ leading hitter was Yoan Moncada with 28 hits, 17 runs and 13 RBI. On Tuesday, Moncada put up two hits and two RBI.
Over on the Cardinals’ side, they’re going with Carlos Martinez for the start on Wednesday. In his 37.2 innings and 2-1 record this year, Martinez has a 1.43 ERA with 40 Ks and 17 BBs.
The Cardinals’ top hitters coming into this set were Jose Martinez and Tommy Pham, each with 30 hits on the season. In the Tuesday game, Matt Carpenter blasted a solo homer.
The White Sox are 7-19 in their last 26 Wednesday games and 7-24 in their last 31 during game two of a series. Chicago is also 0-4 in Giolito’s last four starts versus a team with a winning record and the under is 4-0-1 in his last five road starts.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 24-9 in Martinez’s last 33 starts in game two of a series and 5-0 in his last five home starts. St. Louis is also 6-2 in Martinez’s last eight Wednesday starts and 5-0 in his last five starts overall.
Martinez has been very good over his last five starts, allowing just two earned in that span and going at least 6.0 innings in each game. As for Giolito, he coughed up nine earned versus Houston but bounced back well in KC. All of that said, I’m leaning toward the Cardinals with Martinez on the hill.
