|Date & Time||Sunday September 2, 2018, 2:15 PM (EDT)|
The Line: St. Louis Cardinals -175 / Cincinnati Reds +165 --- Over/Under: 9
The Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals will finish up their MLB series Sunday at Busch Stadium.
In the opener Friday, the Cards took a 12-5 win. On Saturday, the Reds struck back on a 4-0 victory.
Cincinnati will be rolling with Anthony DeSclafani on Sunday. Across his 87.0 innings and 7-4 mark this year, DeSclafani has a 4.34 ERA with 75 Ks and 21 BBs.
Scooter Gennett leads the Reds at the plate this year, entering the weekend on 157 hits, 78 runs, 19 homers and 80 RBI. On Saturday, Gennett posted two hits and a run.
As for the Cardinals, they’re sending out Luke Weaver on Sunday. In his 129.1 innings and 7-11 mark this year, Weaver has a 4.59 ERA with 114 Ks.
Jose Martinez is the leading hitter on the Cardinals team with 138 hits, 52 runs, 16 homers and 77 RBI coming into Saturday. In game two, Martinez was 0-for-4.
The Reds are 2-6 in their last eight Sunday games and 1-7 in their last eight in game three of a series. Cincinnati is 5-1 in DeSclafani’s last six starts and 4-1 in his last five starts in game three of a series.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 8-1 in the last nine in game three of a series and the under is 35-14-2 in their last 51 in game three of a series. The over is 7-3 in St. Louis’ last 10 Sunday games and the under is 7-1 in DeSclafani’s last eight starts versus the Cards.
Over his last two starts, DeSclafani has been okay but not great, with 12.2 innings of eight-earned ball. As for Weaver, he comes back into the rotation after doing some time in the pen, and this will be his first start in over two weeks. I’m going to assume Weaver worked out the kinks in his mechanics and take the Cards here.
