Out at Busch Stadium on Monday, the Kansas City Royals and the St. Louis Cardinals will be kicking off their MLB series.

The Royals are coming off a weekend set versus the Yankees. After winning Friday, KC fell Saturday and Sunday to lose the series.

For the Monday game, the Royals will be bringing out Ian Kennedy. Over his 47.0 innings and 1-4 record this year, Kennedy has a 4.98 ERA with 45 Ks and 16 BBs.

Tops  in hitting for KC is Mike Moustakas, with 53 hits, 27 runs, 10 homers and 31 RBI. Whit Merrifield is also playing well on 52 hits, 23 runs and 16 RBI.

Over on the Cardinals’ side, they’re fresh off a series versus the Phillies. St. Louis split that one, winning on Friday and Sunday.

The Cardinals’ starter on Monday will be Miles Mikolas. Across 51.1 innings and a 5-0 mark this season, Mikolas has a 2.63 ERA with 37 Ks and five walks.

Leading the way at the plate for the Cardinals right now is Jose Martinez with 50 hits, 17 runs, five homers and 30 RBI. Tommy Pham is second with 44 hits, 35 runs, eight homers and 19 RBI.

The Royals are 4-1 in their last five in game one of a series and 1-4 in their last five road games. KC is also 1-5 in their last six Monday games and 2-5 in Kennedy’s last seven starts.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 7-3 in their last 10 Monday games and 5-1 in Mikolas’ last six starts. St. Louis is also 1-4 in their last five home games and 2-5 in their last seven overall.

Kennedy has some good starts to his credit this year, but he has given up 14 earned runs over his last 10.0 innings in two starts. As for Mikolas, he’s been solid lately with no more than two earned in any of his last six starts. All things considered, I’m going with Mikolas to stay hot and get the Cards a win.

Pick:
St. Louis Cardinals -195
