The Kansas City Royals and the St. Louis Cardinals meet in game one of a three game interleague series from Busch Stadium in MLB action on Tuesday night.

The Kansas City Royals will look to build some momentum after a 5-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels in their series finale on Sunday, avoiding the sweep in the process. Hunter Dozier had a double and two RBIs while Chris Owings and Alex Gordon each added an RBI as well with Gordon chipping in a two-bagger of his own. Billy Hamilton doubled while Nicky Lopez and Adalberto Mondesi each went 2 for 5 at the dish. Cam Gallagher added a base hit of his own to cap off KC’s offense as a team in the winning effort. Danny Duffy got the win to improve to 3-1 on the year after allowing the lone run on five hits while walking three and striking out five over six innings of work. Homer Bailey will start game one and is 4-4 with a 5.36 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bailey is 6-15 with a 5.56 ERA and 108 strikeouts against St. Louis.

The St. Louis Cardinals could use a win after losing 7 of their last 9 games following a series loss to Texas following a 5-4 defeat in 10 innings in the series finale on Sunday. Paul DeJong had a double and three RBIs while Dexter Fowler had a solo home run. Harrison Bader went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles while Marcell Ozuna went 2 for 4 with a two-bagger of his own. Yairo Munoz contributed a base hit of his own to cap off St. Louis’ scoring as a team in the loss. Jack Flaherty gave up two runs on four hits while striking out five over six innings of work. Jordan Hicks took the loss to fall to 1-2 on the year. Michael Wacha will start the opener is 3-1 with a 4.93 ERA and 39 strikeouts this season. In his career, Wacha is 3-1 with a 2.56 ERA and 26 strikeouts against Kansas City.

Kansas City is 1-4 in their last 5 games overall and 3-8 in their last 11 interleague games while the under is 2-0-2 in their last 4 road games. St. Louis is 2-7 in their last 9 games overall and 9-3 in Wacha’s last 12 home starts while the over is 15-5-1 in their last 21 series opening matchups. Kansas City is 2-8 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.

The plus money would be worth a look, but the problem is that Kansas City, despite picking up a win on Sunday, is losing games more often than not, and you’re usually profiting more often than not by just blindly fading the Royals. Bailey has seen plenty of the Cardinals from his time in Cincinnati, and in that time, Bailey was whacked around a lot as seen by his career numbers against the Cardinals. I also don’t think that St. Louis should be this much of a favorite after being touched up for the most part in his last few starts. Instead, I’m going to side with the over. I think both starters are going to have issues keeping runs off of the board and both offenses are capable of scoring some runs when they want to, so I’ll hope for a double-digit game here and back the over.
