|Date & Time||Tuesday May 22, 2018, 8:15 PM (EDT)|
The Line: St. Louis Cardinals -215 / Kansas City Royals +199 --- Over/Under: 8.5
On Tuesday from Busch Stadium, the Kansas City Royals and the St. Louis Cardinals will be continuing their MLB series.
In the Monday opener, the Cardinals put up four runs in the third inning on the way to a 6-0 shutout victory.
For Tuesday’s matchup, the Royals will be going with RHP Jason Hammel. In his 53.0 innings and 5-0 record this year, Hammel has a 6.28 ERA with 27 Ks and 16 BBs.
Entering this series, Mike Moustakas was the top Royals hitter on 53 hits, 27 runs, 10 homers and 31 RBI. On Monday, Moustakas put up a 1-for-3 line.
Over on the Cardinals’ side, they’re rolling with Luke Weaver on Tuesday. In 47.1 innings and a 3-3 mark so far, Weaver has a 4.37 ERA with 42 Ks and 17 BBs.
Jose Martinez was the top Cards hitter entering this set with 50 hits, 17 runs and 30 RBI. In the Monday game, Martinez had a hit and a run.
The Royals are 2-5 in their last seven Tuesday games and 0-4 in their last four in game two of a series. KC is also 1-6 in Hammel’s last seven road starts and 1-8 in his last nine starts.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 28-11 in their last 39 during game two of a series and 7-1 in Weaver’s last eight starts in game two of a series. St. Louis is also 7-1 in Weaver’s last eight starts versus a team with a losing record and 4-1 in his last five home starts versus a team with a losing record.
It’s been a rough stretch of games for Hammel, who has one quality start in his last four outings and 14 earned over his last two in 9.2 combined innings. Weaver had a bad run himself a while back, but in his last pair he’s given up just one earned in 12.0 innings. I can’t find a lot of reasons not to pick the Cardinals here.
