St. Louis, Missouri
St. Louis Cardinals +108 / Los Angeles Angels -118 O/U: 9.5
The Los Angeles Angels and the St. Louis Cardinals will meet up to kick off their weekend MLB series Friday.
The Angels are coming off a set against the Blue Jays. LA took the first three games of that series 10-5, 3-1 and 11-6. In the Thursday game, the Angels fell 7-5 in 10 innings.
For Friday’s game, the Angels will be sending out Griffin Canning in the start. Over his 50.1 innings and 2-3 record this year, Canning has a 3.93 ERA with 54 Ks and 10 BBs.
Over on the Cardinals’ side, they’re fresh off a series versus the Marlins. St. Louis lost Tuesday but took the Monday and Wednesday games of that set, then in the finale Thursday the Cardinals fell in a tough one 7-6 in 11 innings (ending oddly on a pickoff play).
In Friday’s matchup, the Cardinals are sending Michael Wacha to the mound. Over 60.0 innings and a 4-3 record this year, Wacha has a 6.00 ERA with 56 Ks and 35 BBs.
The Angels are 0-4 in their last four Friday games and 1-4 in their last five interleague road games. LA is 0-4 in their last four interleague road games versus a team with a winning record and 6-2 in the last eight interleague games overall.
Meanwhile, the Cards are 2-8 in their last 10 Friday games and 8-2 in Wacha’s last 10 starts in game one of a series. St. Louis is 9-4 in Wacha’s last 13 home starts and 2-5 in his last seven interleague starts.
Canning has given up 11 earned over 18.0 innings on 18 hits across his most recent three outings, but he’s also lasted exactly 6.0 innings in each of his last four starts. Trouble is, he hasn’t gotten a win since May 18.
As for Wacha, he’s got some ugly numbers that stick out over his last five starts (17 earned combined over three starts in that span) so I don’t necessarily trust him here. I’m going Angels.
