The Line: St. Louis Cardinals +120 / Los Angeles Dodgers -130 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Los Angeles Dodgers and the St. Louis Cardinals will be continuing their weekend MLB series on Saturday from Busch Stadium.
The Dodgers secured a 9-7 win on Thursday in the opener, then on Friday LA kept it going with a 3-0 shutout, holding the Cards to just two hits.
For the Saturday game, the Dodgers are bringing out lefty Rich Hill. Across his 113.2 innings and 8-5 record this year, Hill has a 3.88 ERA with 128 Ks and 37 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Dodgers this year is Manny Machado, who entered game two with 56 hits since joining the team along with 28 runs and 28 RBI. On Friday, Machado Came up empty.
Over on the Cardinals’ side, they’re going with John Gant on Saturday. In his 102.2 innings and 7-5 mark this year, Gant has a 3.16 ERA with 86 Ks and 47 BBs.
Leading the way for the Cardinals hitters this year is Marcell Ozuna, who came into Friday on 149 hits, 62 runs, 21 homers and 82 RBI. In game two, Ozuna was 0-for-4.
The Dodgers are 24-7 in their last 31 in game three of a series and 5-0 in Hill’s last five starts in game three of a series. LA is also 10-3 in Hill’s last 13 Saturday starts and 7-3 in his last 10 starts.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 10-3 in their last 13 in game three of a series and 5-2 in Gant’s last seven starts. St. Louis is 5-2 in Gant’s last seven starts on grass and 1-4 in his last five starts versus a team with a winning record.
Gant’s last seven starts have been really solid, as he hasn’t given up more than two earned in any of them and he’s 4-1 in that time. As for Hill, he’s been okay but not great lately, giving up 11 earned over his last three starts in 16.0 innings. I’m going to stick with Gant to stay hot here so I’m going Cards.
