|Date & Time||Sunday September 16, 2018, 8:08 PM (EDT)|
The Line: St. Louis Cardinals -105 / Los Angeles Dodgers -105 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals meet Sunday in MLB action at Busch Stadium.
The Los Angeles Dodgers look for another victory after winning six of their last nine games. The Dodgers have scored 29 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in six of their last nine games. The Los Angeles Dodgers have won seven of their last nine games when scoring three or more runs. Cody Bellinger leads the Dodgers with 135 hits and 71 RBI while Matt Kemp and Chris Taylor have combined for 249 hits and 137 RBI. Ross Stripling gets the ball, and he is 8-3 with a 2.61 ERA and 125 strikeouts this season. Stripling is 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA and eight strikeouts in his career against the Cardinals.
The St. Louis Cardinals could use a win after losing six of their last nine games. The Cardinals have scored 11 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last 11 games. The St. Louis Cardinals have won five of their last seven games when scoring more than three runs. Marcell Ozuna leads the Cardinals with 149 hits and 82 RBI while Jose Martinez and Matt Carpenter have combined for 286 hits and 157 RBI. Adam Wainwright gets the ball, and he is 1-3 with a 4.70 ERA and 18 strikeouts this season. Wainwright is 5-5 with a 2.69 ERA and 61 strikeouts in his career against the Dodgers.
The Dodgers are 35-17 in their last 52 Sunday games, 5-1 in Striplings last 6 road starts and 6-1 in Striplings last 7 starts. The Cardinals are 5-2 in their last 7 during game 4 of a series, 38-16 in Wainwrights last 54 home starts and 9-4 in Wainwrights last 13 starts. The Dodgers are 7-2 in the last 9 meetings in St. Louis, the Cardinals are 4-1 in Wainwrights last 5 home starts vs. Dodgers and the under is 35-17 in the last 52 meetings.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are heating up at the right time as they chase down a playoff spot, and Stripling has been very consistent for LAD this season. Wainwright appears to be a shell of himself, and in just 23 innings this season, he's allowed 26 hits, four homers and walked 14 batters. Wainwright has also pitched just five innings since May, so I doubt those control issues aren't going to improve that much. The Cards have been rocked in this series and seem to getting cold at the worst possible time. I have to side with the Dodgers and the cheap price.
