The Line: St. Louis Cardinals -187 / Miami Marlins +176 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Over at Busch Stadium on Wednesday, the Miami Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals will be picking up their MLB series once again.
In the Tuesday game, the Marlins scored three times in the fifth on the way to a 7-4 win.
For Wednesday’s outing, the Marlins are going with LHP Wei-Yin Chen for the start. In his 31.0 innings and 1-3 record this year, Chen has a 6.10 ERA with 24 Ks and 16 BBs.
Coming into this set, Starlin Castro led the Marlins on 65 hits, 32 runs and 24 RBI. In the opener, Castro had a hit and a run.
Over on the Cardinals’ side, they’re going with Jack Flaherty on Wednesday. In his 34.1 innings and 2-1 mark this season, Flaherty has a 2.62 ERA with 36 Ks and nine BBs.
St. Louis’ leading hitter this season is Jose Martinez, who came into this series on 59 hits, 23 runs and 31 RBI. In the Tuesday game, Martinez put up two hits and a run.
The Marlins are 4-9 in their last 13 Wednesday games and 1-4 in their last five during game two of a series. Miami is also 1-5 in Chen’s last six starts and 0-5 in his last five road starts.
Meanwhile, the Cards are 5-2 in their last seven in game two of a series and the under is 4-0 in their last four in game two of a series. The under is 5-1-1 in Flaherty’s last seven starts overall and 3-0-1 in his last four starts in game two of a series.
Chen had a decent run of three games going there, but fell back in his last outing with four earned on four hits in just 1.2 innings in San Diego. As for Flaherty, he had a run of one-earned starts (three) before allowing three earned on seven hits over 5.0 innings in a no-decision versus Pittsburgh his last time up. All things considered here, I have to stick with the Cards.
