MLB | Milwaukee Brewers (60-49) at St. Louis Cardinals (57-50)

The St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers face off on Friday at Busch Stadium for game one of their series of NL Central leaders.

The St. Louis Cardinals continue to chase the Brewers in the NL Central with a chance in this one to gain a full game. The Cardinals are 29-23 at home, 4-6 in their last 10 games, and they are coming off of a win in their last game. As a team he Cardinals are hitting .250 with Matt Adams hitting .314, Matt Carpenter hitting .286, and Matt Holliday hitting .265. The Cardinals pitching staff has an ERA of 3.45 with the starters at 3.37 and the bullpen at 3.61. For game one against the Brewers the Cards start Adam Wainwright who has won three of his last four decisions. For the season Wainwright has allowed 110 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 122 over 149.2 innings for a 13-5 record and a 1.92 ERA.

The Milwaukee Brewers lead the National League Central as they set down for the stretch drive. The Brewers are 30-26 at home, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and they are coming off of a win on Wednesday in Tampa Bay. As a team the Brewers are hitting .253 with Jonathan Lucroy hitting .306, Carlos Gomez hitting .294, and Ryan Braun is hitting .287. The Brewers pitching staff has an ERA of 3.67 with the starters at 3.70 and the bullpen at 3.61. For game one at St. Louis the Brewers start Wily Peralta who has won his last three starts. For the season Peralta has allowed 131 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 96 over 131.1 innings for a 12-6 record and a 3.56 ERA.

St. Louis is 9-3 against the NL Central, 7-3 in their last 10 games as a favorite, and 5-2 in Wainwright’s last seven home starts against a team with a winning record. Milwaukee id 4-0 against the NL Central, 1-4 in their last five road games, and 7-3 in Peralta’s last 10 starts against the NL Central. Milwaukee is 18-38 in their last 56 games against the Cardinals.

The Cards are a big favorite here but this one is a coin flip and I look for the Brewers to take game one of this series.
